Saturday: choose the art, then leave it space

Select the Uffizi, Accademia or another collection before booking the rest of Saturday. Check the official entry arrangements and choose according to the work you want to see, not the idea that every famous museum must be included. Keep lunch flexible enough that you can finish the visit without monitoring the time through every room.

After eating, explore a limited section of the historic center around the cathedral or Piazza della Signoria. Exterior architecture and public squares can fill the afternoon without another admission. Find somewhere to sit and let the first collection settle rather than immediately beginning another. For the evening, stay near the center or your accommodation and keep the meal as the final activity.

Sunday: Santo Spirito and the southern streets

Cross the Arno in the morning and make Piazza Santo Spirito the anchor for a shorter neighborhood route. Look at the church exterior and surrounding streets, adding an interior visit only if access and your interest align. Workshops and homes are not automatically open attractions, so respect signs and private thresholds.

Choose lunch on this side of the river. Afterwards, decide between a more substantial Pitti or garden visit and a gentler street-and-river walk. These are alternatives: a major interior or hillside garden needs more time and effort than a simple stroll. Check closing and entry arrangements before committing, especially if your train leaves later that day.

Keep the final crossing useful

Return by a bridge that suits your luggage collection or departure route rather than retracing the busiest crossing out of habit. A different river view can be a satisfying end to the weekend. Do not add a distant viewpoint merely because you have a spare hour; the climb and return may consume more of it than expected.

If rain changes the plan, shorten Sunday's outdoor portion and choose one indoor visit in the Oltrarno, subject to availability. Saturday's museum already supplies an all-weather anchor. The weekend leaves Pisa, Siena and other excursions aside, allowing Florence to be more than the interval between regional train journeys.
