Start with the airline's deadlines

Find the recommended arrival time, check-in or bag-drop cutoff and boarding requirements for your actual flight. These can vary by carrier, airport and destination. Do not replace them with one universal number from a packing checklist.

Allow for the journey inside the airport as well as security. Heathrow's boarding guidance reminds passengers to monitor screens and leave time to reach the gate. A terminal arrival is only the start of the airport process, especially when the gate is a substantial walk or train ride away.

Verify the first service, not the usual service

Search the transfer for the exact date and intended departure time. The first metro may not connect with the first airport train, and a weekend engineering timetable can differ from a weekday schedule. If the public-transport chain is too tight, arrange an appropriate alternative before going to sleep.

For a booked car, confirm the pickup address, terminal and contact procedure. Ask the accommodation whether its entrance or vehicle access changes overnight. A driver waiting on the wrong side of a pedestrian district can erase the buffer you thought you had.

Remove morning tasks

Pack the main bag, settle any available checkout formalities and place the accepted boarding document with your travel essentials. Confirm whether you need to return a key, leave a deposit card or speak to reception. Ask about breakfast only if it can realistically fit the departure.

Separate the clothes and toiletries you will use in the morning. Charge devices and keep cables where you can see them. A final sweep for passports, chargers and items in the bathroom is easier when most of the room is already cleared.

Keep one response to disruption

Know what you will do if the planned ride does not arrive or the first train is canceled. Save an official taxi contact or another workable service. Avoid a backup that depends on the same closed line.

Set alarms with enough time to wake fully and check live transport information. If a problem appears, act while alternatives remain available rather than repeatedly hoping the original plan will recover. An early departure does not need a complicated routine; it needs a realistic route, a packed bag and clear airline requirements.
